Did you know that 40% of the world’s population does not have access to a toilet? This equates to approximately 2.4 billion people. Who Gives A Crap https://us.whogivesacrap.org/) was started by three young men in July 2012 who like toilet paper (honestly, who doesn’t?) and who were appalled to learn how many people don’t have access to toilet facilities. Monies were initially raised through crowd-funding. In order to draw attention to their cause, one of the company founders, sat on a toilet in their warehouse and refused to move until they had raised enough pre-orders to start production. They raised $50,000 in 50 hours, enough to get things going.
Who Gives A Crap donates 50% of their profits to non-profit organizations dedicated to providing access to hygiene, water and basic sanitation in developing countries.. As of this date, $487,500 has been donated to help fund these projects. It has been proven that for every dollar invested in sanitation yields $5.50 in increased economic prosperity. Poor sanitation causes diarrhea-related diseases that kill 900 children under the age of 5 every day. If you have raised children, you know how quickly sick kids get dehydrated. In developing countries this is a sad fact of life. By contrast, more people in the world have mobile phones then have toilets.
This company produces bamboo toilet paper, paper towels and facial tissues. Bamboo uses far less water than trees, produces more oxygen and doesn’t require the use of herbicides. Using bamboo has saved 30,797 trees, it grows like a weed (it is technically a grass) and it makes a great product. Using bamboo saves natural resources. Vast quantities of water; close to two million gallons, and 5,922 tons of gas emissions were avoided by using bamboo instead of wood pulp. I ordered a case of toilet paper and a case of facial tissues. I am extremely happy with my purchases, and plan to add paper towels to my next purchase.
This is in no way a commercial or paid endorsement for this product. My point is that in purchasing the necessities of life, your selection can make a huge difference in the world. This company helps people and environment, both today and in the future.
In case you are wondering how I find out about these ideas, I don’t know. I just seem to have a magnet where they seem to find me. I’ll bet this title got your attention!
Wishing you peace,
Cindy
