I got my newest edition of the NRDC National Resource Defense Council magazine lately. In it, they had a Toilet Paper Sustainability Scorecard. They ranked popular brands of toilet paper (or bathroom tissue, if you prefer) according to their use of sustainably-sourced materials. When you think about climate change, wouldn’t you hate to be contributing to it because of the toilet paper you use?
According to their chart, the bath tissues ranked “A” are Green Forest, 365 Bath Tissue, Natural Value, Earth First, Seventh Generation and Trader Joe’s Bath Tissue. Those ranked “B” are Marcal 1000 and Marcal small steps. There was no tissue with a “C” rating. Those toilet papers with a “D” are 365 Sustainably Soft, Cottonelle Ultra Comfort Care, Scott 1000, Scott Comfort Plus, and Trader Joe’s Super Soft Bath Tissue. The brands ranked “F” are Charmin Ultra Soft, Kirkland Signature, Angel Soft, Quilted Northern and Up&Up Soft & Strong. They also list the brands currently on the market that are environmentally responsible; Seventh Generation, Natural Value, Who Gives a Crap? and Green Forest Brands.
It’s an easy change to make. I order mine online, and have my facial tissue, bath tissue and paper towels shipped directly to my door. There is no plastic packaging, and the cardboard boxes are recyclable. We’ve got nothing to lose and the whole world to gain.
Take care,
Cindy
