This Saves Lives

I was in a local Starbucks the other day and spotted a granola bar called, “This Saves Lives”  The title immediately caught my eye.  So, of course, I bought it.  What I learned from reading the label and going to their website is that it is distributed by This Saves Lives, LLC.  This company is working to end childhood malnutrition.  Their mission is fueled by revenues from the sales of their nutrition bars.  Every purchase sends food to a child in need.  Each sale pays for a packet of peanut paste called Plumpy’Nut full of vitamins and minerals formulated to provide optimum nutrition for a malnourished child.  It takes 3 packets a day for 8 weeks to take a child from severely malnourished to completely healthy.  It’s shelf-stable and easily transportable.  The company was founded by actors Kristen Bell, Todd Grinnell, Ravi Patel and Ryan Devlin.  So far, This Bar Saves Lives has saved the lives of 11,201,223 children, both in the U.S. and around the world.

Speaking of food on a mission, Lay’s potato chips ( is selling special bags of their chips with photos of people smiling (well just the bottom halves of their faces).  The purchase of these specially marked bags will enable Lay’s to make a donation to Operation Smile.  Their goal is to donate $1 million to Operation Smile.  Lay’s has pledged from $500,000 to $1,000,000.  Operation Smile is committed to matching the contributions received through Lay’s.  Here is where you can contribute: . If you go on to Lay’s website: , you will get to meet all kinds of people who are doing all kinds of acts, great and small to make the world a happier, kinder place.  These peoples are our everyday heroes.  They reach out to those around them to spread a very special message, “You Matter”.  Operation Smile is a wonderful organization that goes all over the world to provide corrective surgery for children with cleft lip or cleft palate.  This surgery gives these children a chance to live happy, productive lives.  You can view their message and their mission here:

Take care and be well.

“Most people are like you and me, or the people across the street, or around the world from you and me.  Just like you and me, their hearts tell them that somewhere, somehow, they can make a positive difference in this world.”                                    William Baker
