The August/September 2021 issue of Taste of Home magazine profiled a young woman who used the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to show kindness to the people around her. As the pandemic began its stranglehold on our country, Rhiannon Menn posted a notice on social media offering to make extra meals for those in need. The first week she and her daughter made and delivered seven lasagna meals in their area.

She called her mission Lasagna Love ( Soon her social media friends contacted her to see how they could help. Like any good idea, this grew and grew. By the end of the first year, Lasagna Love delivered 2,000 meals a week all over America. Now about 20,000 home cooks are participating in the meal preparation and delivery.

The volunteer cooks are not bound to any strict schedule; the system works according to their availability. Recipients do not have to meet any special criteria. As Rhiannon says, “If you need help, we’re here for you.” Knowing that they are helping people is all the payment she needs. Lasagna Love plans on continuing as long as it is needed.

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”         Amelia Earheart
