The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/) sent out an email reminding people that it is Socktober! Socks are the item most requested and most needed in homeless shelters . The need is particularly great at this time of year as we come into the Fall and Winter. Cold, wet feet are a terrible thing to endure, but receiving warm socks goes a long way to helping keep warm.
According to their site, each night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, they want 2 million people to show that even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless. RAK doesn’t specify what sizes of socks are needed, so I imagine any and all would be a big help. If you like, you can check with a local shelter or soup kitchen to determine their needs. A pair of socks is a small thing, but it can make a big difference.
Thanks,
Cindy
