My brother informed me the other day that some of the Lions Clubs were no longer accepting eyeglasses for recycling. We’re not exactly sure why, but we were able to find out that most optometrists and Walmart vision centers are accepting them and are processing them. Lions Club International has a partnership with Walmart Corporation. Donated glasses are routed to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers, where they are processed and stored until needed. The Lions accept new, used, prescription, non-prescription, eyeglasses, safety glasses and sunglasses. Broken or incomplete glasses are not accepted. Lions Clubs International does not have a recycling program for contact lenses. The Lions accept used hearing aids at designated locations. Contact a Lions-affiliated foundation in your region to learn if they have a program for recycling hearing aids. In the United States, you may deposit glasses in the eyeglass collection box at participating local Walmart Vision Centers. Donated glasses are routed to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers, where they are processed and stored until needed.
Since 2012, Costco has partnered with New Eyes for the Needy to support its Overseas Program. Costco sends members’ used eyewear and hearing aids to New Eyes where they are sorted, tested and repackaged for distribution to those in need around the world. Just another example of sharing our bounty with our brothers and sisters around the world.
Belated Happy New Year!
