For people who are hurting or in need, there is nothing like homemade hats or scarves or blankets to make them feel better. There are actually very many charities that can use handmade items. If you go on their websites you will be astounded at the scope and variety of items that they need. The Binky Patrol (https://binkypatrol.org/) is an organization that donates handmade blankets to children in need. Some of these children are in foster care, some are experiencing trauma, and some are children experiencing illnesses.
Care Wear (http://www.carewear.org/) has an extensive list of handmade baby items that you can donate to various hospitals and organizations. They are an IRS approved 501(c)(3) organization.
One group that has been around for a while is Warm Up America! (https://www.knittingforcharity.com/warmupamerica.html) This approach appeals to knitters and crochets of all skill levels because you only have to make a 7″x9″ rectangle, send your rectangles to a designated address and they will be joined together to make blankets for those who need them.
Operation Gratitude (https://www.operationgratitude.com/) puts together packages to deployed troops and hats and scarves are always welcome. These items are shipped out to our soldiers overseas.
That is all for now. I will post more agencies as I research them.
Keep warm,
Cindy
